For "Invol2ver," Sasha worked with producer/engineer Barry Jamieson, house duo Spooky (Charles May and Duncan Forbes) and sound engineer Leo Leite to produce a second collection (following 2005's "Involver") of progressive/house remixes. Among the new album's 13 tracks are Sashafied re-workings of Thom Yorke's "The Eraser" and Ladytron's "Destroy Everything You Touch."

The grouping "used every piece of dirty equipment they could get their hands on," according to a press out release, to create simply the ripe sounds for the remix album, which is imputable in stores Sept. 8 in the US. "In every way, 'Invol2ver' is closer to a production album than anything else. We were like kids in a toy shop basically, hunt out as many honest-to-goodness mixing desks, drum machines and guitar pedals that we could find on eBay," aforementioned Sasha.

"It's like a collage of New York sounds. Old gear is so unpredictable and it had a thinker of its own, this album was very self-generated in that way," added Jamieson.

Sasha's old studio LP, "Fundacion NYC," hit stores in 2005. The progressive house mix was divine by the performer's haunt residencies at New York City's Fundacion nightclub.

The fact that Southern careen gods Lynyrd Skynyrd derived their cognomen from their heights school gymnasium teacher, Leonard Skinner, makes it appear only natural that longtime drummer Artimus Pyle mightiness someday have his name vitiated and appropriated by another band such as Atlanta, GA's Artimus Pyledriver. Early in their life history, Buffalo natives the Goo Goo Dolls were often discharged by critics as mere imitators of the Replacements; however, the isthmus refined and mainstreamed their legal sufficiency to become of the most popular adult alternative rock bands of the latter half of the '90s, selling millions of records to audiences mostly unfamiliar with their inspirations. That's no criticize on the isthmus, either -- their music just improved in craft and approachability as the eld progressed, and radio happened to be receptive to what a ten earlier would sustain been considered collegial top executive toss off. Thus, the band landed two huge hits with the acoustic ballads "Discover" and "Iris."

The Goo Goo Dolls were formed in Buffalo, NY, in 1985 by guitarist/vocalist Johnny Rzeznik, bassist Robby Takac, and drummer George Tutuska, ab initio under the diagnose the Sex Maggots (the new diagnose was chosen from an ad in True Detective cartridge clip at the behest of a local lodge owner). Originally a cover isthmus with a taste for power pop and definitive rock & roll, the group presently began piece of writing its own songs. Their early sound recalled the Replacements' origins as a bratty tinder banding (circa Drab Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash) -- musical, snot-nosed, and a little bit thrashy. That sound was the reasonableness the banding attracted the interest of the heavy metallic element label Metal Blade, which issued their debut album in 1987 (known either as The Goo Goo Dolls or First Release). 1989's Jed continued in a similar vein; the college radio breakthrough came with 1990's Hold Me Up, a Replacements-ish power pop record.

1993's Maven Car Wash was the Goo Goo Dolls' artistic find; though it did aught to squelch the Replacements comparisons, it was a finely crafted pop/rock platter, and its lead single, "We Are the Normal," was co-written with Replacements leader Paul Westerberg himself. Still, Mavin Car Wash wasn't the commercial force the banding hoped it would be, especially in light of the success of similar bands like the Gin Blossoms. That all changed with 1995's A Boy Named Goo, when an L.A. rock station put the acoustic-driven lay "Nominate" into heavy rotation. It was finally released as a single countrywide, and went Top Five late in the year; pt gross revenue for the album followed close behind. Unfortunately, drummer Tutuska was no yearner around to enjoy the band's succeeder; prior to the album's outlet, he'd been pillaged and replaced by drummer Mike Malinin.

Disgruntled with the royal family rates in their Metal Blade contract, the banding waged a legal battle that wound up allowing them to jump-start to parent ship's company Warner Brothers. Somewhat drained, Rzeznik and the band shook off a vitrine of writer's block to add the ballad "Iris" to the soundtrack of the 1998 Nicolas Cage/Meg Ryan latinian language Urban center of Angels. Appearing that April, the song was a monster smash, although it was never released as a single (so its official Top Ten pop chart status doesn't convey how popular it was); for a better indicator, "Iris" spent nearly a yr on Billboard's airplay charts, including an amazing 18 weeks at number one, and was nominative for three Grammys. The band's following album, Dizzy Up the Girl, was released in September, during the midsection of "Flag"'s marathon airplay run, and sold over trey million copies. Its clean, refined good completed the Goo Goo Dolls' transformation into mainstream pop/rockers world Health Organization happened to have alternate roots. Further hits from the record followed o'er the following year, including "Swoop," "Dizzy," and the Grammy-nominated "Bootleg Balloon," and the band toured heavily in support. The Goo Goo Dolls revamped their sound for 2001's life history retrospective, Ego, Opinion, Art & Commerce. A year later, the trio strike the charts with "Here Is Gone" from their one-seventh studio album, Gutterflower. The CD/DVD combo Live in Buffalo: July 4, 2004 helped fans suffer the prospicient wait for the band's adjacent studio album, Permit Love In, which didn't appear until 2006.

Snoop Dogg, Nas, Cory Gunz See Nothing Wrong With Shaquille O'Neal's Anti-Kobe Freestyle

Shaquille O'Neal hasn't rapped in public much over the past few years, but when he does, he makes an impact. (Remember his mixtape back-and-forth with Skillz a few years back?)

And on Monday, footage of him throwing some playful jabs at Kobe Bryant consumed the headlines. "Last week, Kobe couldn't do it without me," Shaq rapped about his former teammate's failed run at the NBA title. (See what the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust had to say about Shaq's rhymes here.)

Snoop Dogg, one of the biggest Lakers fans in the world, called up the Nutz in the Morning radio show in Phoenix on Tuesday (June 24) to give his take on the freestyle.

"I love it, because it only makes for a great game on the court," Snoop told the hosts. "Both of them is rappers; they tried rapping before. They know ain't no rules when it comes to rapping. Shaq has all access and the right to do and say what he wants to say in fun, in the spirit of rap."

On Monday night, TMZ cameramen caught up to Nas, and the Queens MC gruffly said that he didn't see Shaq's freestyle — but he rode with O'Neal nonetheless.

"I heard about it. Shaq is my man — f--- Kobe," he said, with wife Kelis in the background talking to her friends. "Big up to Shaq."

The big guy himself said the rap was all in fun. "I'm totally cool with Kobe. No issue at all," Shaq told ESPN.com on Monday afternoon. "I was freestyling. That's all. It was all done in fun. Nothing serious whatsoever. ... That is what MCs do. They freestyle when called upon."

Well, if you don't believe Shaq's explanation, a member of his inner circle is backing him up. He might not be that familiar to sports fans who don't follow rap closely, but hip-hop fans recognized Cory Gunz as the young man onstage with Shaq in the infamous video of his live freestyle.

"That was on my birthday on Sunday," Cory, son of rapper Peter Gunz, told MTV News on Tuesday. "It's all in fun. People thought he was doing it just to take shots at Kobe. He's not even thinking about [Kobe] like that. As a matter of fact, it's no bitterness towards Kobe at all. It was all done in fun to get the crowd hype. That's what real MCs do: get the crowd involved."

O'Neal and the Gunz family were celebrating for Cory at the Village Underground club in lower Manhattan when everyone started grabbing the mic.

"It was a few performers there," Gunz said. "My dad performed. He got on the set, gave me a birthday shout-out. I went up there and performed a couple of verses. After me, Shaquille came up on surprise mode. He was playing around, freestyling, joking around. All that stuff was off the top of his head. On his leisure time he does that. It's all done in fun. He sits around the house and freestyles. He snaps on me. That's what he does. That's Shaquille."

Cory said he has quite a few O'Neal rhymes in the stash waiting to hit the masses. "I got mixtapes with him getting ready to come out," Cory said. "Not a tape — tapes."

Before then, however, the young Gunz is focusing on restarting his solo career and introducing his rap crew, the Militia. "I'mma just put the music where my mouth is," the Bronx native insisted. "The next tape is coming out mid-July, titled The Best Kept Secret."

Gunz was the subject of a You Heard It First feature back in 2005 when the then-17-year old was lighting the mixtape circuit on fire with a string of street-CD and -DVD appearances. With Tommy Mottola in his corner, Gunz signed a deal with Def Jam Records soon after, but his time on the label was fruitless ("Things didn't work out as planned," he said. "No bad feelings. We left on good terms). He was recently granted a release and is hearing offers for a new label home.

Wherever he lands, he'll have the NBA's Man of Steel supporting him. "Shaquille is involved in everything," he said. "He's been helping for years. He's my god-dad. That's my peoples."

Gunz caught back on fire a few weeks ago with his performance over Lil' Wayne's "A Milli" beat. The track was originally planned to be one of several interludes on Weezy's Tha Carter III. Tyga, Hurricane Chris and Lil Mama were among those who were supposed to give their interpretations of "A Milli" as well.

"I was in the house. I had spoken to Wayne a couple of weeks prior when he sent me the record," he remembered. "I was talking to him about a couple things, and he said, 'You know what, I got you.' "

A month later, Wayne's management sent the instrumental for "A Milli."

"I got a slew of mixtapes coming out. I'm still working on my album. I'm about to go real hard," he said. "Everybody better watch their back."

Melancholy instrumental trio Dirty Three formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1992, lED by classically-trained fiddler Warren Ellis, wHO began writing and playing medicine for art openings and plays and also tenured in the groups Blackeyed Susans, Paranoid and the Nursing Mothers.
